Welcome Summer with a Sunset Cruise
Soon the models will come out of hibernation, Camps Bay beach front will become crowded with tourists and hipsters and the ubiquitous GP number plates will start to clog up the roads of the beautiful Mother City. This is not a complaint though as the Cape Town locals love nothing more than when the world comes to play in their beautiful playground and the tourist enjoy little else more than a sunset cruise in Cape Town.
Cape Town tourism and the sea go hand in hand, mostly because it is a peninsula and as such is surrounded by the sea. So it is not too surprising that the ocean is a massive draw card for tourists in Cape Town, it is perhaps our biggest natural asset. Many might argue that Table Mountain is, and while it certainly might be the most iconic, I would argue that more tourists take to the beaches and the ocean in general than ever make it up Table Mountain.
One of the best ways to truly enjoy everything that makes the Mother City such an iconic tourist destination is a sunset cruise in Cape Town.It takes in all the sights and icons of the city, while allowing you to enjoy the pristine beaches and most importantly the iconic African sunsets. The city viewed from the sea is an entirely new experience for any visitor bored with the usual tour bus or walking tour view of the city. See the Cape as the first European settlers would've seen it, from the ocean, albeit a very different Cape Town that greeted them will be seen by you, it is perhaps even more spectacular. The skyline of Cape Town is not one punctuated with soaring skyscrapers and world famous examples of architecture. In fact the fascination with sky scrapers has never really reached the shores of the fairest cape.
However there is something new which recently punctuated the Cape Town skyline and it looks even more spectacular from the decks of a charter yacht on a sunset cruise of Cape Town. I will never forget the first time I was lucky enough to be taken on a sunset cruise on a charter boat. It was shortly after the Cape Town stadium had been built and there was still some bitter feeling about its' cost to the taxpayers. However once I had seen it from the deck of a sunset cruise my heart was set on the fact that it belonged where it was.
A sunset cruise from the V&A Waterfront is something that not just tourist should undertake but something that all locals should do as well. A boat charter experience changed my view of the Mother City.
